Services

Advisory without agenda.

Much of this market is organized around someone else’s incentive. Our role is to keep the client’s interest at the center, whether the decision is to buy, to hold, or to sell.

Matthew Rubinger Advisory offers three interconnected services across collection and strategic advisory work, each exemplifying that serious decisions in this market require deep expertise, global access, and a genuine long‑term interest in your outcome.

Service 01

Collection Management

Expert oversight for collections of consequence.

Building an exceptional collection is only the beginning, because sustaining one requires judgment applied over time. MRA provides ongoing advisory services to collectors who are actively acquiring, managing what they have built, or preparing to deaccession.

  • ACQUISITION ADVISORY

We source and evaluate pieces on your behalf, applying market expertise, authenticity assessment, and pricing intelligence to each opportunity. Access is critical, but so is a clear opinion on whether a piece is worth pursuing.

  • COLLECTION STEWARDSHIP

We advise on the composition, condition, and direction of the collection over time: what to hold, what to add, and what no longer belongs to create a collection defined by its coherence.

  • DEACCESSIONING & ESTATE

Whether you are selling selectively or managing a significant estate, we advise on channel, timing, and terms, then oversee the process discreetly from beginning to end. We bring experience from seven- and eight-figure deaccessions across Hermès, jewelry, fine art, wine, manuscripts, and sports memorabilia.

CATEGORIES WE COVER

Hermès handbags  ·  Fine jewelry  ·  Fine art  ·  Design  ·  Wine  ·  Sports memorabilia  ·  Rare manuscripts  ·  Couture

Service 02

Private Sale

Curated access to exceptional objects.

Our private sale service exists for collectors who want access to outstanding pieces without the noise, opacity, or pressure that often surround them. Everything we offer is sourced with judgment, priced fairly, and presented with full transparency.

  • MONTHLY CURATED OFFERINGS

Each month, we circulate a tightly edited selection across our core categories. These are objects we believe in: rare enough to matter, well-priced enough to merit attention, and strong enough to belong in a serious collection.

  • HOW DO I SELL?

Start with a conversation. If you provide us with a brief description of what you have, accompanied by an image or an inventory list, we’ll review the material personally. From there, we can discuss timing, confidentiality, return, and control, and give you a clear view of the options and what to expect.

  • WHAT CLIENTS ASK & WHAT WE TELL THEM

    Is this authentic?

We only offer pieces we have thoroughly vetted.

Is this a fair and informed price?

We price based on market data and direct comparable knowledge, not wishful thinking.

    How rare is this, really?

We will tell you when something is special, and when it is merely being presented that way.

    Can you source something better?

    Often, yes. Ask us.

Is this the right time to buy or sell?

We always factor timing, comparative opportunities, and long‑term outlook to give an informed assessment of proper timing.

Service 03

Strategic Advisory

Strategic guidance for investors, institutions, and businesses navigating the collector market.

MRA advises investors, auction houses, marketplaces, galleries, brands, and other companies on the strategic decisions that shape long-term value. Whether evaluating an acquisition, expanding into new markets, building leadership teams, refining commercial strategy, or navigating growth after an investment, we provide practical guidance grounded in operating experience rather than theory.

OUR APPROACH

Our perspective comes from having built businesses, launched categories, led global commercial organizations, and worked across auctions, marketplaces, luxury commerce, technology, and collecting. We combine market intelligence with an understanding of collector behavior, competitive dynamics, and organizational execution to help clients allocate capital wisely, prioritize opportunities, and avoid costly mistakes.

WHAT TO EXPECT

A thoughtful partner around the table—not a traditional consultant. We help clients pressure-test ideas, challenge assumptions, identify blind spots, and bring clarity to complex decisions. The result is better strategy, stronger execution, and more informed decisions at critical moments.

How We Work

Every engagement begins with a conversation. What follows depends on the client and the object, but the principles do not change.

01

Conversation

We begin by understanding what you collect, what you are trying to accomplish, and where the market has created friction before.

02

Assessment

From there, we assess the collection, the opportunity, or the sale path ahead, drawing on comparable knowledge, market context, and judgment.

03

Execution

We manage the process in full: sourcing, vetting, negotiating, transacting, and, where relevant, shipping, insurance, and documentation. You are kept informed without being burdened with detail.

04

Ongoing Relationship

The strongest client relationships are long ones. We stay involved, track what matters to you, flag opportunities, and remain available when a decision needs to be made quickly.

Not sure where to start?

Most conversations begin with a question about a piece someone wants to find, a collection they have inherited, or a purchase they want a second opinion on. Let’s start there.
